What to bring to the free consultation

To get the most out of your free bankruptcy consultation, make sure you come prepared. Below is a list of what you should bring to the consultation.

PHOTO ID - Bankruptcy law requires you to provide proof of your identity. Please bring a government issued photo ID (eg. driver's license) and your social security card to the meeting.

CREDIT REPORT - Federal law entitles you to a free credit report from each of the three credit reporting agencies each year. Please bring a credit report from each of the three agencies to your initial meeting. You can request a credit report online at www.annualcreditreport.com, or you can request a report by mail or phone. Mail your request to Annual Credit Report Service, PO Box 105281 , Atlanta , GA 30348-5281 or phone 1-877-322-8228 toll free.

PAY STUBS/PROOF OF INCOME - Bankruptcy law requires that you provide proof of your average monthly gross income from every source for 6 months before you file your bankruptcy petition. Please bring all pay stubs or any other income records for the past 6 months to your initial meeting. You should include record of tips, commissions, bonuses, unemployment compensation, social security, retirement pension, rental income, interest or dividends, spousal or child support, and any other source of income. If you live with a spouse, then you will need to bring records of your spouse's income for the past 6 months as well.

BANKING RECORDS - Please bring statements from every financial institution you have an account with for the past 6 months.

TAX RETURNS - Bankruptcy law requires you to copies of your tax returns for the past 4 years.

BILLS/ACCOUNT STATEMENTS - You will have to provide a listing of all your debts before you can file for bankruptcy. Please bring all information you have regarding any loans, medical bills, credit accounts, auto payments, and lawsuits for the past 3 months.

EXPENSES - You will need to provide a listing of all your monthly household expenses before filing for bankruptcy. This includes rent or mortgage, utilities, telephone, internet, cable television, transportation, alimony or child support, food, clothing, entertainment, and any other monthly expenses. Please bring as much documentation of these expenses as you have for the past 6 months.

INCOME DEDUCTIONS - Please bring documentation regarding any deductions from your income including federal or state taxes, retirement contributions, insurance, court ordered payments, garnishments, or any others for the past 6 months.

PROPERTY DOCUMENTS - Bankruptcy law requires documentation of contracts and security agreements. This includes mortgages, leases, car loans and leases, stocks, furniture rental agreements, etc. Please bring as much documentation as you can for the last 4 years.

CHILD SUPPORT/ALIMONY - If you pay child support or alimony, please bring all documents associated with these payments.

PROOF OF INSURANCE - Please bring as much documentation as you can of any insurance policies secured by a lien including homeowners and automobile insurance.

DOCUMENTS FROM PREVIOUS BANKRUPTCY - Please bring all documentation you have for any bankruptcy you filed in the past years.

OTHER DOCUMENTS - Please bring a list of all previous addresses for the past 3 years, documentation of any money received from a trust or a probate estate, and documentation of any felony conviction.
